Deleted Land

The file is a visual essay of the area marked by the largest mining activity in Slovakia. That leaves traces not only on the surface. Thousands of kilometers-long corridors are meandering underneath us.

In 1988, as a consequence of lignite mining in the Horná Nitra region, the settlement of Laskár was displaced. The houses, mansion, and park succumbed to the mining field number 11. The ground collapsed, and trees submerged in water. The settlement disappeared from the map and from official records.

What do you see at the end? A human.
